My Naturopathic Approach

What is Naturopathy?

Naturopathy is a patient-centered approach to healthcare, guided by six core principles:

The Healing Power of Nature – Our bodies have an innate ability to heal themselves. The therapies I use are designed to support and encourage this natural process.

Identify and Treat the Cause – Instead of simply addressing symptoms, I look for the underlying causes of each health concern to help create lasting improvements.

Treat the Whole Person – Every part of your health is connected. I consider all aspects of your wellbeing—physical, emotional, and lifestyle—rather than focusing on one area in isolation.

First, Do No Harm – Your safety is always my priority. All treatments are carefully selected to be appropriate for your individual needs.

Education – I aim to provide you with the tools and knowledge to understand your health and make informed decisions about your wellbeing.

Prevention – Supporting your health now helps protect your future. Whether we’re managing a chronic condition or working to prevent common lifestyle-related issues, prevention is key to long-term wellness.

The Initial Consultaton

Our first consultation usually takes about an hour, giving us time to explore your health in detail.

During this session, we’ll talk through your main concerns, symptoms, and health history. I’ll also ask about any medications or supplements you’re currently taking, as well as your diet, digestion, immune function, stress and energy levels, sleep, and general lifestyle habits. If you have any recent test results or medical reports, we’ll go through those together as well.

After our consultation, I’ll take some time to review everything we’ve discussed and create a personalised treatment plan for you. This will include practical recommendations for diet and lifestyle changes, and, if appropriate, a prescription for nutritional or herbal support. Before prescribing any herbs or supplements, I carefully check for potential allergies and possible interactions with any medications you may be taking to ensure your safety.

It's best to schedule a follow-up appointment in about two weeks so we can check in, review your progress, and make any adjustments to your plan as needed.

Nutritional Medicine

Fresh, wholesome food is the foundation of good health — but there’s no single “perfect” way of eating that works for everyone. The way we eat is influenced by so many things: our preferences, the people around us, our culture, and even what’s available to us day to day.

That’s why I take a personalized approach. Together, we’ll create an eating plan that’s suitable for your requirements, and fits into your lifestyle — no fads, no “one-size-fits-all” diets.

By looking at your current food choices, any symptoms you’re experiencing, and relevant test results, I can help identify foods that may be contributing to your health concerns and recommend those that can support your healing. If nutritional deficiencies are present, or if extra therapeutic support is needed, I may prescribe practitioner-only supplements. These are high-quality products made to strict safety and manufacturing standards, as regulated by the Therapeutic Goods Administration. Supplements can be ordered online and mailed to your address.

Herbal Medicine

Herbs have been valued for thousands of years for their medicinal, cosmetic, and culinary uses. More recently, many have also become the source of active compounds used in pharmaceutical medicines.

When the whole plant is used, however, its many natural components work together to provide a range of therapeutic benefits. This interaction, known as synergy, allows us to create herbal blends that are specifically tailored to each person’s individual needs.

Herbal medicines are available in various forms, including fresh or dried herbs for teas (tisanes), tinctures, tablets or capsules, and ointments or lotions for topical application. Teas generally provide the gentlest effects, while tinctures offer a more concentrated potency.

Safety and quality are always my priority. The tinctures and tablets I prescribe are sourced from practitioner-only suppliers who comply with the strict quality and safety regulations set by the Therapeutic Goods Administration. Herbal medicines can be ordered online, and mailed to your address.

Lifestyle Therapies

The way we live each day shapes not only how we feel now, but also our health and wellbeing in the years to come. A key aspect of naturopathy is offering guidance to help you create an environment that supports healing in the present and nourishes your wellbeing into the future. Simple daily habits that encourage steady energy, ease stress, and invite relaxation and restful sleep can make a meaningful difference—not only to physical health, but also to emotional and mental wellbeing.

Functional Pathology Testing

Functional pathology testing can provide insights into your nutrient levels, any systemic imbalances, and the biochemical processes within your body. It is particularly useful if you have a chronic or complex condition, as it can give a more precise picture of your health status, and guide the most effective care for your needs.

Over 200 tests are available and include*:

Hormonal testing: female, male, thyroid and adrenal hormone panels

Genetic testing: Mthfr, DNA wellness profiles

Allergy testing: for foods, inhalants, moulds, and other environmental allergens; food intolerance tests

Environmental pollutants and mycotoxins

Hair mineral analysis

And many more...

*Please note, the fees for all tests are set by NutriPATH

About Sandy

About Sandy

I've cared about health for as long as I can remember: I grew up in a family that believed in natural approaches to wellbeing, and that early influence has stayed with me ever since. It's what led me to study biological sciences at the University of Queensland and later work in medical research, where I came to really value the role good science and clinical expertise play in our care.

But along the way, I realised something important: true health isn't just about the absence of disease. It's built day by day, through nourishing food, supportive lifestyle choices, and people feeling empowered to take an active role in their own health care. Once I understood how many chronic conditions can be relieved, or even prevented, through this kind of whole-person approach, I knew I wanted to go further. That's what led me to study naturopathy.

Having lived much of my life in regional and remote Queensland, I understand the particular challenges rural communities face when it comes to health, especially when someone needs ongoing care for a chronic condition. As our rural population ages, helping people stay well for as long as possible matters enormously: for them, for their families, and for their communities. Through Encourage Health Naturopathy, I offer online support to help people prevent and manage lifestyle-related conditions, no matter where they call home.

Outside the clinic, you'll usually find me in the garden! I've seen firsthand how growing our own food has benefited my family's health and mine.

I am blessed with a large family and live with my husband in the beautiful Wide Bay hinterland of South East Queensland, where we enjoy a close connection to nature on our small acreage.
